Flower Field

The exhibit delves into various facets of plant physiology, emphasizing flowering and pollination dynamics, particularly the pivotal role of insects as pollinators. It elucidates why insects are drawn to flowers, primarily for nectar, and elucidates how they inadvertently facilitate pollen transfer.

Central to the exhibit is a stylized flower meadow model with a mascot resembling a pollinating insect, such as a honey bee, affixed to a rope spanning four vertical columns. Ten flowers feature touch-sensitive nectaries on stamens with anthers, emitting corresponding sounds upon interaction. Visitors engage with the exhibit simultaneously, maneuvering the mascot via a rope to access nectar. Successful interactions trigger celebratory sounds. Educational material adorns the meadow table wall, highlighting pollination mechanics and advocating practices to bolster pollinator populations. Precision is paramount; NFC sensors ensure accurate interactions between the mascot and designated flowers. Accessibility is prioritized with adjustable heights for children and wheelchair users, while robust construction encourages tactile engagement.
