Exposition The River of Dreams

Riga Art Space, Riga, Latvia, 2015

The River of Dreams is a multimedia exhibition that revives the paintings of Cristina Luisa Avotina and offers a journey into the artist's world. The director, scenographer, video, and sound artists, in collaboration with Avotina, have interpreted the senses (movement, sound, spatiality) encoded in the painting scenes.

The exhibition's scenography offers visitors the opportunity to experience three different spatial perception scenarios of the paintings. While walking inside the maze of projection screens, you can feel like a part of the paintings, experiencing a real sense of presence and spatial depth within the exhibition. When observing the exhibition from the viewing platform, all the separated screens align into a three-dimensional collage, combining into a single 25-meter-wide painting. The view from behind the projection screens adds additional vertical depth to the paintings, and the black mirrors create playful reflections on the floor plane. The mirror planes behind the screens are designed in a triangular shape to mimic the projection beams. Changes in flooring material act as barriers to prevent visitors from entering the projection beams.
