Case Study: Transformation of Historical Landmark
Let's dive into one of our recent projects - an exhibition on three floors of Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower. This case study showcases how innovative design and creative implementation can transform historical landmarks into vibrant cultural attractions, enriching communities and preserving heritage for generations to come.
History
City of Jelgava has a rich history dating back centuries. It was once the capital of the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia and played a significant role in the region's cultural, political, and economic development. Nowadays, it is the fourth-largest city in Latvia and still holds an important place in terms of cultural heritage, economics, education, and tourism.
To understand the significance of the exhibition in Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower, we must first delve into the history of the tower. This landmark holds immense historical importance and sets the stage for our narrative.
In 2010, the tower underwent a rebirth, becoming the tourist information center of Jelgava. It also serves as a historical exposition and has a sightseeing platform. Previous historical exhibit, established in 2010, had become outdated. In order to create new content that would tell both tourists and local residents about the history of Jelgava, the most important thing was to create a new concept of what is the most essential in history in terms of timelines, which is worth conveying and telling to today's and tomorrow's visitors.
Overall Objective
The main goal was to give a fresh energy to the St. Trinity Church Tower as Jelgava's premier tourist attraction. Through engaging content and advanced technology, the objective was to attract both tourists and locals, offering an educational and entertaining experience in relatively small spaces, at the same time not compromising the historical inheritance.
The Exhibition Overview
The new exhibition of Jelgava St. Trinity Church Tower is a modern interior installation, carefully balancing historical preservation with contemporary innovation. By integrating interactive elements, augmented reality, multimedia displays and cutting-edge technology, the exhibition gradually unveils the history of Jelgava. This approach fosters visitor curiosity and engagement while respecting the tower's historic integrity.
Creativity and Originality
Notable features include a 3D model showcasing historical city planning, a timeline exhibit highlighting significant events, and a virtual fashion show featuring period costumes. These creative elements, along with music and virtual experiences, added depth and authenticity to the exhibition.
Challenge
A primary challenge was seamlessly incorporating the exhibition within the tower's original historical framework. Preserving authenticity while providing a captivating modern experience required detailed planning and creative solutions.
Solution
To address this challenge, the design team carefully designed interactive exhibits and multimedia displays that complemented the tower's architectural features. By using movable elements and augmented reality, they preserved the tower's historic ambiance while immersing visitors in Jelgava's rich history.
Outcome
The exhibition successfully revitalized the St. Trinity Church Tower, drawing visitors and receiving positive feedback. Beyond educating about Jelgava's history, it has become a cultural landmark and source of community pride. Ongoing tourism and cultural appreciation contribute to its lasting legacy.
